This article has three components: firstly, itanalyzes the conditions that have been established in order for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (brics) to be considered the “BRICKS” of the international system in a multipolar context. Secondly, the article examines the conditions that are prevalent in order to allow a post development discourse. Lastly, the previous iscussion will be an impetus to analyze the existing conditions regarding the environment and wealth distribution within these emerging markets. Most studies of the brics are based on aspects related to economic growth, but leave out important analyses of population flows and ecosystems. In this article such discussions are key to understanding what role the BRICS play within the international system.
