2023: “Zero COVID” Ends, and Chinese Investment Returns

The end to “zero COVID” and likely burning out of the pandemic allow changes in China’s global investment and construction. One change is China’s government no longer pretending COVID was good for investment. More important, genuine activity should rise sharply.
Commodities are an obvious target, but Chinese priorities in 2023 could also be politically determined. Firms will return to countries where they’re wanted and that Beijing sees as most important.
Concerns about Chinese investment in the US appear outdated; it remains tiny. American investment in China soared through 2020. The US barely publishes relevant numbers for this, much less limiting support of Chinese technology or bad actors.
